Lesson 27: Africa's Future


According to the latest economic statistics, Africa Is currently the fastest growing economy in the world, by 2030 Africa will have the largest workforce greater than China and by 2050 Africa will have the largest workforce in the world. In other words by 2050 around 1 billion people in Africa will need jobs.
With this statistic, Africa is at a high tipping point, and we really need solutions to address these new challenges that we are about to face. I believe that for us to address these challenges we need to have transformational leaders and visionary entrepreneurs who will be able to inspire and lead this continent by building the right ethics in government institutions and creating jobs that will enable us to sustain this growth projected.

In Africa we are missing transformational leaders to lead the current generation and the power with which one leader can have is immense in creating a lasting change in Africa and that is why my dream is to build these great institutions that can mentor the next generation of African leaders and equip them with the necessary skills to be able to support the expected growth in Africa by addressing these key challenges we are facing in Leadership and creation of jobs. As Nelson Mandela said “Every now and then a generation is called upon to be great”, I believe we are this generation that has been called to be great.

Well today I want to share one of my favorite poems that  I came across while in High school but today I also stumbled upon it and it is a very inspiring poem that shows yo how to deal with life. I have made it one of my life principles to read it always and practice what it says. I do wish that we would practice what it says and things will change for the better. The poem is called Desiderata and it was written by an American author    Max Ehrmann  in 1927 . The poem has deeply shaped some of the great people we know, Morgan Freeman the popular American actor once said that the poem has remarkable shaped his life,   US Democratic presidential hopeful  Adlai Stevenson  died in 1965 having the poem by his bedside, and finally me too this poem has a great influence in the way I carry myself everyday. Lesson 44. Alibaba

I have just finished reading Alibaba: The house that Jack Ma built by Duncan Clark. This is a brilliant book in the way the author presents the journey of Alibaba from Jack's small apartment to a billion dollar company, many of us have heard of Alibaba recently during the IPO but this book reminds us that success is as a result of hard work, perseverance, sacrifices and most of all loving what you are doing or  learning to do.  We see the influence that Jack Ma has established to move the company forward with the Jack Magic effect, something similar to Steve Jobs reality distortion field effect. One thing that I really loved was the clear outline of the growth of internet companies in mainland China, and a key lesson can be learned on how big tech companies in China have been able to replicate similar services and technology offerings of major players in the industry  by tailoring this to Chinese market, eg Google- Baidu eBay- Eachnet Amazon-JD.com/Alibaba ...
