Lesson 21: THE COFFEE CUP CONCEPT

                                                         THE COFFEE CUP CONCEPT

The founder of the high school I attended had a very unique perspective on life which I fell in love with. It was unique in the way it helped many of us achieve our objectives and followed the principle of service to the community. This was one of the key principle that he grew up with and started the famous institution to help people achieve their life long dream and make it in the world.

His name was Dr. Geoffrey William Griffin and the values he left for us in his death bed I have found out to be very unique and efficient in the way we approach our lives and it is that principle that I want to share with you, He called it the “Coffee cup concept” The coffee cup concept states that if you are given a coffee cup to clean whether it is clean or dirty you have to wash it cleanly as if it has never been washed before. In other words this means that in all things that you do, you have to put in your best effort and do it to the best of your ability as if it has never been done before.

This means that we have to do our duties to perfection, as he said this world is full of people who do their duty halfheartedly and grudgingly, don’t be like them, whatever your duty is do it to the best of your ability and spare time also to help the needy in the society and not to expect anything in return but because it is the right thing to do. This has been a guiding principle for me and as it is said you have to give value first to get something in return and this has worked perfectly for me. Remember whatever you duty is, do it to the best of your ability without expecting anything in return
